Welcome to the information page of HBC Youth! We exist to Evangelize, Encourage, and Equip teenagers to be focused followers of Christ. This is not an easy task, but it is one God has called us to do. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through CHRIST who strengtheneth me.” As believers, we are called to not “grow weary in well doing” but instead “press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:14) Therefore, through the years, we have developed ways to help our students fulfill God's call in their life by helping them get involved in three areas.
Evangelism is the greatest call for the New Testament Christian. Christ told us in Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Our desire is to see teens saved all throughout our schools, our state, our country and our world! We encourage students to share the gospel with their friends in their school, encourage involvement in visitation in the church and
Encouragement is a visible reminder of the love that Christ left us. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" John 13:35. In a generation where the average teenager has more expendable income than many poverty stricken countries, students have their own smart phones, and many other conveniences that previous generations have never known, we are endeavoring to display and teach the self-less model that Christ left for us when he lived on the earth. Living like Christ, has proven time and again to be the greatest path to fulfillment that man has ever known! We hope to accomplish this through helping our widows & fatherless (James 1:27) with community service, great times of fellowship, a card ministry to encourage others, and displaying the love of Christ to the students!
Equipping is an exciting opportunity to learn to do the work that Christ has called us to! These years in a young adult's life help to shape the future for them, and learning some basic, yet necessary elements of ministry is an important aspect of the ministry at Hillside. We use Sound Biblical teaching, encourage personal Bible study, offer one-on-one discipleship for our students and practical ministry opportunity.
Ministries of HBC Youth
Our ministries to the youth include Prayer Meeting at 9:15 AM on Sunday, followed by Bible Study at 10 AM. This time focuses on teaching the Bible to the students in a practical way that can be used through the week. We also include them in corporate worship on Sunday mornings so they can learn to worship God as a body in the church. We have opportunities for them to minister in music in the youth class and in the corporate worship hour of the church.
Youth Summer Bible Camp
Each summer, our youth are encouraged to participate in Bible Camp. Junior Camp is for incoming 5th grade through incoming 8th grade, and Senior Camp is for grades incoming 9th to outgoing 12th. While at camp, our students have an opportunity to participate in Zip Line, Swimming, Team Sports, Singing, Preaching, Song leading, Art, and many other activities. Please Click Here for an information sheet and a Health/consent form. If you have want further information, see the camp website at www.ozarkbaptistcamp.com or call the church office.
On Wednesdays at 6:45 PM during the School Semesters, we encourage the students through an exciting youth service called, FOCUS! This is a fast pace and Christ-centered worship for teens with different themes and games each Wednesday designed to get them excited about what God is doing in their lives, the church, and around the world. Each Semester emphasizes a different Bible passage that is taught and awards are given for those who get involved with scripture memory, bringing guests, and their Bible. Grades 7-12 all meet together during this time in the Youth Department.
Purpose Statement: We exist to evangelize, encourage and equip teenagers to be focused followers of Christ!
Meet our Youth Leaders!
Moses and Elizabeth (Center) began working with the youth in January 2015, and have a passion for helping students come to a full life in Christ. Their burden for seeing students develop into devoted followers of Christ has been evident as they have poured themselves into serving others. Moses is currently enrolled at Andersonville Theological Seminary. They have two children, who are adored by the students!
Travis and Megan Whitcher (Left) have been serving with the ministry since August 2016. Like Moses and Elizabeth, they grew up at Hillside, and have been serving faithfully in other roles at Hillside. Travis is currently the Jr. High teacher. They have two children and a passion for serving Christ together! Travis is also enrolled at Andersonville Theological Seminary as he prepares for future ministry opportunities.
Greg & Jennifer Mitchell (Right) have served in church ministry for many years. They bring experience and compassion to this diverse team of youth leaders. They have two children, who are both students in the youth ministry. They both love Christ and serving him in this role has been a blessing to them!
